Nigeria has called for bolstering regional security through a revived West African standby force and enhanced intelligence sharing, as articulated at the High-Level Conference on Security and Regional Cooperation here.
In a statement on Monday obtained from the Presidency, Nigeria reaffirmed its dedication to peace and stability.
It proposed reactivating a regional standby force and positioning Nigeria’s National Counter Terrorism Centre as a central hub for intelligence and joint operations.
Speaking for President Bola Tinubu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu stressed the urgency of unity.
“Joint initiatives, intelligence sharing, and coordinated operations are central to Nigeria’s national interest and critical to combating terrorism, transnational organized crime, and other threats to regional stability,” she added.
The conference, attended by West African leaders, highlights growing concerns over insurgencies and cross-border crimes plaguing the region.
