The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled a new spectrum roadmap for 2026–2030, in a move designed to transform the country’s telecommunications sector and reinforce its digital infrastructure.

The roadmap, presented at a high-level consultative forum in Abuja on Monday, sets out policies and strategies that will guide the management and optimal use of spectrum resources over the next five years.

The NCC said the plan is expected to “support the rollout of high-speed broadband services nationwide,” particularly through new guidelines for the lower 6GHz and 60GHz spectrum bands.

According to the Commission, the initiative is closely tied to the economic agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The roadmap, it stated, aligns with the president’s vision of “building a 1 trillion dollar digital economy by 2030, driven by improved connectivity and technology-led growth.”

Industry stakeholders, including telecom operators, infrastructure providers and policymakers, attended the Abuja forum to review and fine-tune the framework.

The NCC emphasised that effective spectrum planning and allocation will be critical to unlocking investment, improving service quality and expanding access to fast, reliable internet across urban and rural areas.
