The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy of Nigeria, Wale Edun, has engaged in high-level discussions with Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
This was made known in a statement on Friday by the Ministry of Finance.
The meeting took place during the AATB and AHEB events in Abuja.
Edun emphasised President Bola Tinubu’s focus on expanding intra-African trade and harnessing private-sector potential, noting that “Africa currently trades more with the rest of the world than with itself.”
He outlined ongoing reforms in Nigeria aimed at attracting investment, improving the business environment, and supporting vulnerable populations, all designed to foster sustainable economic growth.
On the importance of action, Edun stated, “This partnership must move from conversation to execution. A joint working group will ensure follow-through and practical outcomes.”
Tunisia expressed keen interest in boosting commercial relations, especially in sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and SME development.
Minister Abdelhafidh also announced plans for a direct air route between Tunis and Abuja by 2026, which is expected to facilitate investor and business mobility.
