The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has issued a public disclaimer on Monday, alerting Nigerians to a scam involving fraudulent employment letters targeting young and economically vulnerable individuals.
In a statement signed by George Ene-Ita, Director of the Public Affairs Department, the agency exposed how “unscrupulous persons” are “exploiting young, economically vulnerable and unsuspecting Nigerians perhaps into parting with huge sums of money for purported employment opportunities into the Authority.”
The statement detailed the tactics, “They do this by issuing bogus ‘Letters of Employment’ and empty promises, as well as offering non-existent positions. These may well be the handiwork of fake recruitment syndicates established to mastermind these fraudulent activities.”
NMDPRA emphasised there is no ongoing recruitment, “We wish to use this opportunity to state categorically that the NMDPRA is NOT conducting any recruitment exercise currently. Neither is the Agency undertaking any kind of employment into its services at any level.”
The agency assured that any legitimate future hiring “would be undertaken in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service,” urging the public to “ignore these spurious claims by unscrupulous people whose only objective is to defraud Nigerians and cast aspersion on the Authority.”
For verified updates, NMDPRA directed people to its official website at nmdpra.gov.ng and verified social media accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
