NNEW partners DRPC to empower petty traders in Mile 12 International Market

NECA’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW) disbursed ₦100,000 business support grants to 25 petty female traders in Mile 12 International Market, Lagos, with support from the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC).
A statement from the organisation on Tuesday said the initiative is part of the project “Empowering 50 Female Petty Traders in Mile 12 International Market,” which builds on the earlier WVL-Nigeria Project that trained over 400 petty traders across Lagos State.
The grant disbursement followed a one-day Mile 12 workshop where 50 women petty traders were trained on financial literacy, record keeping, access to credit, gender-based violence awareness, and women’s health. Out of the participants, 25 were selected through a transparent process to receive direct business support grants.
Chairperson of NNEW, Mrs. Edobong Akpabio, commended dRPC for the initiative and urged other organizations to support indigent women. Vice President of NNEW, Mrs. Bolanle Edwards, representing the President, Mrs. Adefunke Kuyoro, appreciated dRPC’s long-standing support and encouraged beneficiaries to invest the funds in their businesses as trained. The leader of the women, Yeye Modupe Ojo expressed gratitude, promising the funds would be used judiciously to uplift members and reduce poverty.
NNEW reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment through financial assistance, capacity building, and entrepreneurship programmes for grassroots women in Nigeria.
