The National Orientation Agency has discovered unethical practices by some higher institutions and banks in the disbursement of student loans.
A statement obtained on Sunday from the NOA’s Deputy Director, Communications and Media, Paul Odenyi, disclosed that the latest report by the Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers, of the NOA, revealed that schools and banks are conspiring to short-change the students.
The NOA’s Director General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, announced the findings after meeting with Nigerian Education Loan Fund Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, over the weekend.
Initial reports indicated that certain university officials have been withholding vital information regarding loan disbursements, prompting immediate action from NELFUND.
Odeniyi said the NOA’s feedback shows how specific institutions have, in connivance with some banks, deliberately delayed payments to successful student applicants for personal financial benefit.
