The National Orientation Agency has condemned the recent killing of hunters in Edo state.

The victims, mostly Hausa hunters, were on their way to Kano on Friday, March 28 to celebrate the Sallah festivities when members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes reportedly blocked them and burned them on Thursday, March 27, in the Uromi area of Edo State, Dailyeconomy reported.

The NOA Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement on Monday, described the killing as inhumane and one that goes against the principles of justice and due process.

The DG expressed the NOA’s confidence in the security agencies ability to bring the perpetrators to book, noting “Every Nigerian, regardless of background or location, deserves the right to a fair trial and protection under the law

“Real Nigerians are known for their unity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. Whenever there are suspicions of crime, citizens should report to the appropriate security agencies rather than resorting to extrajudicial actions.”

He thereby sympathised with the families of the deceased, while urging Nigerians to shun extrajudicial actions and report any incident to the appropriate authorities.

Issa-Onilu restated the agency’s commitment to promoting peace and unity in the country.

He added, “The NOA remains committed to promoting peace, unity, and the values that define us as a nation. Let us work together to uphold justice and safeguard the sanctity of human life.”
