The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has disclosed the results of its internal probe into the August 26, 2025 derailment of the Abuja-Kaduna train.

According to a statement by NRC Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, the accident was caused by excessive speed combined with improper use of the emergency braking system—both factors linked to human error.

The derailment involved 618 passengers, resulting in 21 injuries but no fatalities.

Opeifa assured the public that all recommendations from the investigative committee will be strictly implemented to prevent future incidents.

The NRC emphasized its ongoing commitment to passenger safety and enhancing the operational efficiency of Nigeria’s railway network.
