NRC attributes train derailment on Warri-Itakpe line to suspected vandalism

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a derailment incident on its Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS), which occurred yesterday at about 19:30 hours near Agbor at Kilometer 212+8m.

According to the statement by the NRC management, “two out of the seven coaches” were involved in the derailment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the cause may be due to “suspected track vandalism.”

Thankfully, “all passengers on board were safely evacuated to Agbor, and everyone has been fully accounted for. No casualties or injuries were recorded.”

Recovery efforts have been ongoing since last night, with NRC’s team, alongside security personnel, working steadily at the site.

As a precaution, “train services on the corridor have been temporarily suspended today to enable a comprehensive security and safety audit of the track and related infrastructure.”
