The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has instructed the immediate retraction of a petition put forward to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions by Assistant Corps Commandant Attah John Onoja, who serves as the Commander of the Mining Marshal.

The petition claimed that police officers in Nasarawa State hindered and attacked NSCDC mining marshals during an operation.

However, in an official statement from NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi disavowed the petition, labeling it unauthorized and not representative of the Corps’ official stance.

Audi expressed regret over any embarrassment the petition may have caused, especially to the Inspector General of Police’s office, which he noted was unaware of the reported incident.

He reiterated NSCDC’s dedication to promoting robust inter-agency collaboration noting the Commandant General emphasised the Corps’ continued partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The NSCDC also called for a joint investigation with the police to objectively examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
