Okocha welcomes former coach in Lagos

Nigerian football icon Jay Jay Okocha recently played host to former Super Eagles head coach Clemens Westerhof at his home in Lagos.

In an Instagram post featuring photos of their meeting, Westerhof referred to the evening as an “unforgettable night of my life,” commending Okocha for his generous hospitality.

Westerhof, who hails from the Netherlands, was at the helm of the Nigerian national team from 1989 to 1994. Under his guidance, the Super Eagles clinched their second Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 1994 and made their debut in the FIFA World Cup that same year, notably finishing first in a group that included Argentina, Bulgaria, and Greece.

Okocha made his debut for the national team during Westerhof’s era and eventually became one of Nigeria’s most celebrated footballers.
