Okonjo-Iweala discusses global trade with Dutch vice-minister

Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has met the Vice-Minister for Foreign Economic Relations of the Netherlands, Michiel Sweers.

Okonjo-Iweala, defined her meeting as a solutions-focused engagement.

Taking to X, Okonjo-Iweala said that with a trade-to-GDP ratio of over 170 percent, the Netherlands remains a very open economy and a strong supporter of the WTO and the rules-based multilateral trading system.

“A good solution focused discussion with the Vice-Minister for Foreign Economic Relations of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Michiel Sweers. With a trade to GDP ratio of over 170%, the Netherlands is a very open economy and a strong supporter of the WTO and the rules based Multilateral Trading System.

“We appreciate the support and the willingness to roll up your sleeves to work to reform and reposition the system,” she wrote.
