The revered Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
His death coincides poignantly with ongoing celebrations marking both his 90th birthday anniversary and the first anniversary of his coronation as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin ascended the throne on July 12, 2024, succeeding the late Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died in March 2024.
His reign, though brief, was noted for promoting unity, peace, and cultural heritage in Ibadan.
The monarch was widely respected for his wisdom and calm leadership.
He received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde during his coronation.
The news of his passing has cast a somber mood across Ibadan and beyond, with official mourning and funeral arrangements expected to be announced soon.
