Lawyer and founder of the Gnosis Help Initiative, Olumide Omosebi, has shared his experience of being in an abusive relationship, revealing that his ex-partner physically assaulted him despite their 10-year age difference.

Speaking in an interview with Naija Info FM 99.3, Omosebi accentuated that men also suffer abuse in relationships and stressed the importance of leaving at the first signs of violence.

He further noted that while legal action is an option, court cases often require patience and financial resources.

His revelations were captured in a video shared on Naija Info FM 99.3’s X (formally Twitter) handle on Sunday.

He said, “I was a single father before I got married and I was being beaten up in one relationship I had back then.

“I was 10 years older and she would give me a slap outside the house (in public), and I would look around to see if anyone saw it and was recording it, you know I left immediately. She’ll come back to her senses and come and kneel and beg.

“She tore my agbada during my mother’s 70th birthday party when she was assaulting me in the party, so men go through abuse as well. So this is the issue when you see violence leave.

“So I broke up, 5 years later she came and said she was pregnant, I was even congratulating her by asking who’s the guy and she said it’s for you. You break up in January someone comes in July to say that, anyways my people are asking who the guy is, you have to come and see them.

“You know in one minute you’re being told you’re a potential father and in the second minute you’re being told you’re a potential husband. I said when the child is born we’d see and when the child came out it was just like me, and I had already prepared for DNA.

“Eventually the child was used against me, they went to hide the child for about 3 years,so I went to court. It took me 2 years and 6 months, I won the case eventually so when you say you go to court, what I’m trying to tell you is that it might take a while.”
