The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has expressed that while many Nigerians support his initiatives and pray for him, negative feedback often garners more media attention.
He stated that when he was speaking at an event organised by the League of Northern Democrats, he acknowledged the importance of constructive criticism regarding tax reform bills, stating that over 99% of interactions he receives are supportive, and prayers despite some negative comments on social media.
The clarification came after some media outlets reported that Oyedele claimed that people curse him and his family over the tax reform initiatives.
Oyedele while reacting to the reports via his official X (formally Twitter) account on Saturday, said, “I have said countless times that many Nigerians support our work and constantly pray for us. Incidentally, this has never made the news.”
He thereby emphasised his commitment to listening to all feedback, regardless of its nature, highlighting the need for open dialogue in governance.
“Then I spoke 2 days ago at an event organised by the League of Northern Democrats where I appreciated the group for their feedback on the tax reform bills and reiterated that we welcome criticisms. I further said that I do not take any feedback or reactions negatively even when some people abuse or curse me and my family on social media… and voila, it is in the news.
“Just to clarify, more than 99% of Nigerians who interact with me on our fiscal and tax reforms pray for me and my family, and members of the committee. Those who don’t are a few, mostly random accounts on social media,” he added.
