The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 38-year-old Saheed Eegunjobi following a violent attack on commercial motorcyclist Sakiru Tiamiyu in Ibadan, with one accomplice still on the run.

According to a statement by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, the suspects posed as passengers and boarded the motorcycle from the Mokola area.

“Upon reaching Modina Area, Idi-Aro, the suspects stopped the motorcycle and attacked the rider, inflicting injuries on his head with a cutlass,” the statement detailed.

The victim fell off as the accomplice fled with the bike, but Eegunjobi was swiftly nabbed by passersby.

The arrest stemmed from strong collaboration between police and the Agbekoya Vigilante group, who handed the suspect to the Idi-Aro Division patrol team.

Under interrogation, Eegunjobi confessed to the crime.

Tiamiyu, 32, received urgent medical care, while police visited the scene and hospital, documenting evidence with photographs.

Efforts continue to track the fugitive accomplice and recover the stolen motorcycle.

The statement praised the operation as a testament to community policing, “This successful operation highlights the critical importance of collaboration between the police and non-state actors, as well as the active support of members of the public.”

The Command lauded Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his leadership and urged residents to stay vigilant.

“The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its resolute stance against crime and criminality… The safety of lives and property remains the top priority,” it affirmed.
