The former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, has warned the public to be wary of AI-generated ads that utilise his likeness to market products without his permission.
In a statement released on Saturday, through X, Obi highlighted that the unauthorised use of his image has recently escalated, with certain individuals taking advantage of this to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.
Obi wrote, “Ordinarily, I would gladly support any genuine endeavour by Nigerians that contributes positively to our nation and to the people involved, but not without authorisation.
“Unfortunately, some unscrupulous persons have exploited such images to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. For this reason, I wish to state categorically that I am not associated with any of these advertisements.”
He added that despite numerous rebuttals issued by his team, the fraudulent practice has continued, compelling him to once again urge the public to remain vigilant and disregard any adverts linking him to products, endorsements, or business schemes.
“I remain committed to promoting transparency, integrity, and ventures that genuinely advance the common good of our society,” the statement summed up.
