Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move, announced during a high-profile registration event today, signals a major realignment in the state’s power dynamics amid ongoing tensions over security and governance.

APC National Chairman Nenetawe Yilwatda personally welcomed Mutfwang into the fold, hailing the decision as a “bold and patriotic step.”

In a statement released shortly after the registration, Yilwatda wrote on X, “On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire family of the All Progressives Congress, I warmly welcome His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, into our great party, the APC. Your decision to join the progressive family is a bold and patriotic step, driven by a higher calling to serve the people of Plateau State and Nigeria.”

The chairman emphasised unity and development, adding, “Today’s registration is a statement of hope and a commitment to a shared vision of inclusive development, peace, and prosperity for Plateau State.”

He assured close collaboration, stating, “We receive you with open arms and a deep sense of partnership. Welcome home to the APC, Senior Caleb Mutfwang.”

Mutfwang, elected in 2023 under the PDP banner, had faced legal battles over his victory, which were upheld by the Supreme Court.

His switch could bolster APC’s grip ahead of future polls, though PDP loyalists decry it as opportunism.

Reactions poured in swiftly, with APC supporters celebrating the “homecoming” on social media, while opposition figures warned of potential instability.
