Police apprehend phone thief caught on restaurant CCTV in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command through its Rapid Response Squad has arrested Ifeanyi Okonkwo, who was caught on Closed-Circuit Television stealing a phone in an Ikeja eatery, Lagos State.

This was disclosed in a video shared by the RRS on its X (formally Twitter) account on Monday.

The caption reads, “The suspect, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, on 7 November 2024, visited the restaurant to purchase food but ended up stealing a Samsung A15 mobile phone belonging to another customer.

“Unbeknown to him, he was captured on CCTV while stealthily taking the phone from the counter.”

According to the RRS, Okonkwo returned to the same restaurant on 5 December, unaware that he was being watched. He was spotted and promptly apprehended by RRS operatives near the scene, confirming that the stolen phone had been recovered from the buyer and the suspect had been charged in court.
