The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in its battle against crime with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorising churches across the state.

The Command Spokesperson SP Bright Edafe stated in a press release on Wednesday, “The Delta State Police Command continues to record remarkable successes in its sustained fight against crime and criminality across the State.”

Acting on intelligence and public complaints, police officers intercepted a gold-colored Toyota Sienna Space Van near Dominican City Church on Polytechnic Road following a distress call about an imminent armed attack.

The suspects, Emmanuel Emiowor (21) and Noah Philip (20), both from Warri, were found in possession of a pump action gun, three single-barrel locally made guns, a locally fabricated revolver, a live cartridge, and an iron rod used for breaking into church doors.

Edafe confirmed, “Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate that specialises in attacking churches,” and noted that some stolen church properties have already been recovered.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s “unwavering determination to rid the State of criminal elements,” emphasising that “Delta State will never be allowed to become a safe haven for crime.”

He called on residents to support law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities through the dedicated emergency line or at local police stations to sustain these gains in security.
