Police arrest Peller for reckless ‘suicide stunt’ driving

Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained 20-year-old social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video of his reckless driving that sparked a serious road crash.
The incident, captured in a live stream on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showed Peller speeding dangerously on Lagos roads, endangering his life and other motorists before crashing.
SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement, describing it as an “attempted suicide” that risked innocent lives.
“The Lagos State Police arrested and detained Habeeeb Hamzat ‘20 yrs’ aka Peller for attempted suicide and commences investigation into suicidal viral reckless driving by the suspect,” Adebisi stated.
She added that Peller’s actions “constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the life of other innocent people.”
The case now falls under the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for probing, with police vowing to charge the suspect in court once investigations conclude.
Lagos Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh in the statement issued a stern rebuke to social media users.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts,” the statement read.
“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender.”
The command also cautioned against conduct “likely to cause their untimely death or one capable of causing breach of the peace,” urging all road users to obey traffic rules for public safety.
