The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a toy pistol during a routine patrol in Ibadan, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb crime in the region.

According to DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer for the command, the arrests occurred on April 6, 2026, around 12:30 p.m. along Awolowo Road in Bodija.

Operatives from Bodija Housing Division intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH, ridden by Godwin Cletus, 26, with passengers Adedokun Isah, 17, and Rafiu Usman, 19—all residents of Gbaremu area, Ibadan.

“In the course of the search, a toy pistol concealed in a black bag was recovered, alongside six different mobile phones found in their possession,” Olayinka stated.

“This discovery heightened suspicion and provided reasonable grounds for their immediate arrest, as it suggested possible involvement in criminal activities.”

The suspects confessed during interrogation to robbing members of the public and dispossessing them of valuables.

“The suspects have confessed to engaging in the robbery of unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement noted, adding that their statements have yielded leads for further probes.

The trio remains in custody as a comprehensive investigation unfolds to uncover the full scope of their operations and potential accomplices.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga praised the operatives’ vigilance, urging public cooperation.

“He also appreciates the Inspector-General of Police for his continued leadership and support, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and timely information,” the statement added.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to safety, promising updates as the case progresses.

“This development underscores the Command’s sustained commitment to curbing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents across the State,” the statement concluded.?
