The Kwara State Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into a suspected arson attack that razed the residence of an elderly woman in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin, with three men now in custody over alleged threats linked to religious differences.
The incident occurred on January 1, 2026, around 7:00 p.m., while the homeowner, T.A. Olorisha, was away.
She reported the fire to C Division at Oja Oba the following evening, around 10:00 p.m. on January 2.
A video of the woman describing the destruction has since gone viral online.
Police have detained three suspects—Alhaji Salihu Saka (63), Alhaji Abubakar Salihu (58), and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele (67)—who allegedly threatened Olorisha in November 2025.
The complainant, a traditional worshipper, cited religious differences as the motive.
“No life lost, as no one was inside the building at the time of the incident,” the police stated in a press release signed on Saturday by SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command Police Public Relations Officer.
“The value of the property destroyed is yet to be ascertained.”
The command emphasized its resolve to justice, assuring the public: “Concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other perpetrators, while all allegations are being diligently investigated.” It also reiterated its commitment “to protecting lives, property, and the fundamental rights of all residents, regardless of religious or cultural beliefs.”
Police urged residents to stay calm and share any useful information to aid the probe.
