Operatives from the Oyo State Police Command, have raided a suspected drug stockpile in Ibadan on Sunday, recovering large quantities of illicit substances and launching a manhunt for the prime suspect.

Acting on credible intelligence from a strategic partner, detectives targeted an apartment on Abanise Street in the Academy area of Olomi.

The tip pointed to Oluwadamilare Adedayo, a resident there, as the individual stockpiling the drugs.

A thorough search uncovered nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of dried leaves believed to be Canadian Loud, and other hard illicit drugs.

All items were secured as exhibits, disrupting what police described as a local distribution network.

The suspect was absent during the raid, prompting an intensive manhunt on the orders of Commissioner of Police CP Femi Haruna.

“Intensive surveillance and a coordinated manhunt have been launched to apprehend the suspect who is believed to have concealed the exhibits prior to police intervention,” stated DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State Command, in the official release on Sunday.

CP Haruna praised the operation’s success, thanking Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his support.

“The Commissioner of Police has appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his strategic leadership, operational direction, and unwavering support, which continue to strengthen intelligence gathering,” the statement noted.

The CP also commended collaborations with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

“This development therefore underscores the Command’s proactive and intelligence-led policing framework, deliberately designed to stem the circulation of illicit drugs, which are known catalysts for violent crimes,” it added.

Oyo Police reaffirmed their commitment to public safety, urging residents to share timely information.

“Security remains a collective responsibility,” the statement concluded.
