The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old suspect linked to the murder of the 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Christiana Idowu.

Idowu was reported to have been abducted in August while in Lagos for her industrial training and later killed.

The abductor (Adeleye) initially demanded a ransom of N3 million before they could release the student.

After several appeals, Adeleye reportedly accepted N350,000 which was sent to his account but he refused to free the kidnapped student.

While in the kidnapper’s den, some ransom funds were deposited into Idowu’s GTBank account and later withdrawn into a Wema Bank account associated with Adeleye, according to social media claims.

However, after the security agency apprehended the suspects, he confessed that he had killed Idowu and buried her at his family home.

Meanwhile, there are allegations that the 23-year-old suspect has been involved in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020 under similar circumstances.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect on Thursday, the Lagos police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the suspect was apprehended with the assistance of military operatives.

He wrote on Twitter now X, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to Lagos Police by 9 Brigade Nigerian Army.

“The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. The investigation is ongoing.”
