Police crack down on criminal hideouts in unfinished buildings

Abdullateef Fowewe

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Ajao S. Adewale, has launched an intensified security operation targeting uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts to protect lives and property.

CP Ajao in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Josephins Adeh, directed all Divisional Police Officers to “immediately intensify patrols and carry out thorough raids on all uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts within their jurisdictions.”

This directive aims to stop criminals from exploiting abandoned or ongoing construction sites as bases for illegal activities.

The Commissioner also urged property developers to collaborate with police by ensuring that “security personnel, artisans, and labourers sleeping at active construction sites are properly documented and profiled before the end of October 2025.”

Additionally, any unidentified persons found at these sites after 6:00 p.m. are to be arrested.

Ajao emphasised that “security is a collective responsibility” and called on residents, estate associations, and community leaders to help by reporting suspicious movements and ensuring all domestic staff are properly profiled by the police.

He also reiterated that scavenging, known locally as “Baban Bola,” remains strictly prohibited in the FCT.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity through the command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
