The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the deployment of its Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to Benue State, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The deployment is aimed at restoring peace and curbing escalating violence in the state, following recent reprisal attacks that have led to the loss of lives and widespread unrest.

Disclosing the development via a post on X (formally Twitter), the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Intervention Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, stated that the unit is fully prepared and equipped to restore order and ensure the safety of all residents in the affected communities.

He wrote, “The Police SIS has commenced deployment in Benue State as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.

“SIS is the most elitist Unit of the NPF, and has a track record of stabilising security situations in communities deployed across Nigeria.

“The SIS is capable of achieving the same in Benue State.”
