Police detain officers over murder of KWASU student

Barely 40 days after Kwara State Police killed a student of Kwara Polytechnic, Quoyum Abdulyekeen, the Command has confirmed the arrest of several officers in connection with the alleged killing of a Kwara State University student, Suleiman Olayinka, in the state.
Olayinka 27, was allegedly killed by policemen on Tuesday at around 2:00 pm in the Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
It was gathered that three policemen were involved in the incident that led to the killing of the student.
Reacting to the brutality, the command spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, verified the incident in a statement made available for journalists, stating that the police were already aware and action had been taken.
She wrote, “The Kwara State Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident, which led to the sudden death of Suleiman Olayinka (M), 27 years old.
“A complaint of cheating and criminal breach of trust was reported against the deceased. Police detectives were immediately assigned to investigate the case.
“Meanwhile, the officers involved in the incident have been identified, arrested, and detained for further investigation regarding the death of the suspect.
“Further updates will be provided promptly as investigations unfold.”
Dailyeconomy on October 15, reported that the Kwara State Police Command has dismissed three police officers, Inspector Abiodun Kayode, Inspector James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip, found guilty of the alleged killing of a student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Qoyum Abdulyekeen.
The command also vowed that they would be prosecuting the officers in a court of competent jurisdiction. Alas, no updates have been received from the command since then despite urging the public to always exercise patience and trust in the legal process.
