The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has thwarted a planned violent assault on a local community, following credible intelligence and a strategic operation led by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a key suspect and the neutralisation of three armed bandits.
In a statement on Monday, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command Police Public Relations Officer, said, “This successful intervention prevented a major attack planned on or before December 1, 2025, aimed at kidnapping residents and disturbing peace in the community.”
The police traced and arrested Sani Mohammed Umar, aka Boko, suspected to be a leading member of the gang responsible for previous attacks in ACO, Dupa, and Gwagwalada, as well as multiple armed robberies.
Umar reportedly confessed that the gang was waiting at Gada Biyu Hills, Kwali, to launch their next operation.
The operation culminated in a fierce 30-minute gun duel at the gang’s meeting point, where three bandits were killed.
Items recovered from the scene include three AK-47 rifles and 33 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
While other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds, a joint team from the police and Nigerian Army continues to pursue them.
The FCT Police Commissioner emphasised, “We commend the gallantry of our officers and appreciate the support from the public. Vigilance remains our best weapon against criminals.”
Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity or injuries resulting from gunfire to security agencies immediately.
