Police foil potential disaster, recover bomb under network mast in Maiduguri

The Borno State Police Command, has thwarted a possible explosion on Monday by recovering an unexploded ordnance (UXO) hidden beneath a network mast in the Chuskon area of Federal Low Cost, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, Police Public Relations Officer for the command, detailed the incident in a press release on Monday.
At around 11:06 a.m., the ITE Police Division received a report of a suspected explosive device.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid promptly deployed the EOD-CBRN Base 13 team, which cordoned off the site and safely neutralised the threat.
“Preliminary assessment revealed that the UXO with two protruding wires was strategically placed by yet to be identified person(s) to cause severe damage and havoc,” Daso stated.
Investigators also recovered a hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes at the scene.
Following the operation, police conducted community sensitisation on vigilance and prompt reporting.
“The Commissioner of Police has charged all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the state to intensify patrols and fortify critical public and private assets, especially communication facilities and other sensitive infrastructure,” the release added.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, urging residents to provide timely information.
Investigation continues, but normalcy has returned to the area.
