The Delta Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and officers across the command to grant unconditional bail to suspects involved in bailable offences, particularly simple offences and misdemeanors.
This directive, in compliance with the recent order from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is aimed at ensuring that individuals accused of minor infractions are not unlawfully detained overnight.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, citizens were advised to screenshot and save the announcement on their phones as a reference.
Edafe emphasised that suspects in such cases must not be made to sleep in police cells, provided they have a reliable surety.
