Police parade 12 suspects in Abuja journalist’s murder

The Nigerian Police Force announced significant progress in the investigation of the armed robbery at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, Abuja, which occurred on September 29, 2025.

Twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident that resulted in the deaths of journalist Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu of ARISE News and security guard Barnabas Danlami, The Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Saturday.

The FCT Police Command revealed that the fatal shot that killed Danlami was fired by suspect Shamsudeen Hassan, who admitted shooting the guard when he tried to stop the intruders.

The suspects possessed firearms believed to have been sourced from Niger Republic and were linked to other robberies in Katampe I, Apo, Zuba, and surrounding areas.

The Police Public Relations Officer stated, “The Nigeria Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of Ms. Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and Mr. Barnabas Danlami, assuring that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion.”

Recovered items from the suspects include locally fabricated assault rifles, pistols, ammunition, knives, mobile phones, and other weapons.

The Police praised their officers for “exceptional professionalism, courage, and dedication” in making the arrests and encouraged the public to remain vigilant and support ongoing efforts to combat crime.

Investigations continue, and more updates will be provided as additional facts emerge.

The Police affirmed their commitment to prosecuting all individuals involved in accordance with the law.
