A potential tragedy was averted on Monday at Ado Bayero Bridge, Kano, when police rescued 19-year-old Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, who climbed a billboard threatening to jump unless he met popular TikTok influencer Abdul BK.
According to DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, a swift response team including police and Fire Service officials was dispatched after a distress call.
“Through dialogue and negotiation, the TikToker was brought to the scene. Upon seeing him, the young man agreed to descend and was rescued unharmed,” he said.
Ibrahim was weak from hours without food and was taken to Police Hospital, Bompai for treatment.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the professionalism of the rescue teams and ordered a thorough investigation.
He warned the public against such acts, reminding that attempted suicide is a criminal offense and urged those facing emotional difficulties to seek professional help.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining public safety,” he added.
Also confirming the rescue operation, the Kano State Command wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, “The Police in Kano rescued one Ibrahim Abubakar, a 19-year-old of Adamawa State who climbed an advertisement Billboard at Ado Bayero Bridge, threatening to jump down and commit suicide unless he sees a popular Tik-Toker, one Abdul BK.”
