The Nigerian Police Force has reacted to viral images of bandits flaunting large sums of ransom money on social media.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, shared some pictures on X (formally Twitter) on Friday evening, which indicated individuals posing with large sums of cash in N1,000 denominations, with one image featuring a bandit sitting on a motorcycle with a rifle beside him and another image showing that the currency notes were arranged on a floor.
However, the police through the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi acknowledged the outrage surrounding the displays, expressing that while they are aware of the criminals’ actions, they cannot arrest all offenders at once.
Adejobi, in the post, encouraged Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of law enforcement agencies, highlighting the daily arrests of numerous criminals.
Adejobi wrote, “We can’t apprehend all the criminals at once. At least appreciate us for the ones we have arrested.
“We arrest them on a daily basis, in large numbers. The armed forces and the police are trying their best. Efforts of security forces should be seen, noticed, and appreciated.
“We need to look towards having collective efforts and individualistic involvement in tackling insecurity and other vices in Nigeria. One thing is sure, most criminals will go unpunished. Thanks.”
Dailyeconomy on Tuesday, August 6, reported that the NPF confirmed the arrest of over ninety suspected individuals who are displaying foreign flags during protests and clamouring for the military takeover in Nigeria.
