Police, scrap dealers collaborate on Explosive Ordinance Safety campaign

Kano State Police Command, in partnership with the National Association of Scraps and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, Kano Chapter, concluded a 3-day Explosive Ordinance Risk Awareness and Sensitization Campaign across key locations in Kano State from September 9 to 11, 2025.
The Command Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated, “The campaign targeted scrap dealers, scavengers, and the general public to educate them on the risks associated with explosive ordinances and the necessary precautions to take when encountering such devices.”
The campaign covered strategic sites including Tashar Yankaba in Nassarawa LGA, Kasuwar Kwanar Ungogo in Ungogo LGA, and Kofar Waika in Gwale LGA.
Leading the campaign, CSP Cyprian Dariya, Base Commander of Explosive Ordinance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), Kano, emphasised important safety tips noting, “Do not move further, Step back, Do not touch and Call Police EOD-CBRN Operatives.”
“These steps are designed to minimize the risk of harm and ensure the safe disposal of explosive devices,” CSP Dariya explained.
Salisu Haruna Abubakar, Vice Chairman of the National Association of Scraps and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, Kano Chapter, praised the initiative, saying, “We appreciate the Kano State Police Command for their proactive approach to enhancing public safety and security, especially within the scraps and waste management sector.”
