The Presidency has issued an apology for inaccuracies found in a recently released list of federal appointments, which was meant to address accusations of bias in President Bola Tinubu’s selection of appointees.

The list followed controversies deepened after a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and lawmaker for Borno South, Senator Ali Ndume, accused the President of violating the federal character principle with his appointments.

In an interview with Arise Television, Ndume, accused the President of breaching the federal character principle through skewed appointments.

In an attempt to address the criticisms, the Presidency released a breakdown of the appointments by geopolitical zones.

According to the list, 29 appointments were made from the South West, 35 from the North West, 22 from the South-South, 16 from the South East, 25 from the North Central, and 24 from the North East.

However, the list sparked further backlash when it failed to include notable figures such as Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, whose omission left the South West region’s tally incomplete.

Responding to the controversy the Special Adviser on Media & Public Communication and Spokesperson to the President, Sunday Dare, apologised in an X (formally Twitter) post on Thursday.

He wrote, “We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later. Thank you.”
