The Nigerian Presidency has expressed strong disapproval of the emergence of billboards in cities like Abuja and Kano promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 elections.

These billboards, featuring images of the President and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have sparked debates nationwide.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency underscored that such campaigns violate electoral laws.

“Premature campaigning can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages,” Onanuga stated, adding that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima supports actions that breach legal or institutional frameworks.

The Presidency further clarified that no authorisation has been given for any group or individual to mount campaigns for the 2027 elections.

“We urgently call on individuals and groups funding this campaign to cease immediately,” Onanuga urged.

The statement said Tinubu reaffirmed his focus on nation-building, including economic revitalization, human capital development, and national security.

He assured Nigerians that any plans for future elections would be communicated only after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the timetable.

This development follows recent controversies surrounding campaign billboards, which have drawn criticism from political parties and observers alike.
