Protest: Lagos CP orders probe on journalists’ harassment

Abdullateef Fowewe

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered an immediate investigation into the harassment of the News Central TV journalists.

The news medium in an X (formally Twitter) post stated that its correspondents were harassed by the armed street thugs and demanded they leave the area while covering today’s (Tuesday) #EndBadGovernance at Ojota area of Lagos State.

Reacting to the post on Tuesday evening, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made it known that the State CP has ordered an immediate investigation on the matter and mandated the probing team to fish out the villains.

He wrote, “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered an immediate investigation into this incident.

“He mandated the investigating team to fish out the miscreants and ensure their prosecution accordingly.

“He gave this directive today when the crew involved, led by News Central MD, Kayode Akintemi, submitted an official complaint letter at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command denied the arrest of a photojournalist identified as Jide Oyekunle while covering the nationwide protest at Eagle Square in Abuja, as reported on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
