Renowned singer, Ikuforiji Olaitan well known as Oxlade has opened up about the inspiration behind the title of his album, ‘Oxlade From Africa’ revealing that his experiences of maltreatment in France influenced his decision.

In a recent interview, Oxlade explained that the title reflects his desire to assert his African identity and connect with the continent’s rich cultural heritage.

He said, “I decided to name my album ‘Oxlade From Africa’ because I was racially abused in France, precisely Monaco.

“That was what woke me up to be an African. It also made me realise that African stigma exists.

“In Africa, we see ourselves as normal human beings but outside Africa, they (foreigners) see us as monkeys, strange beings.”

Oxlade emphasised the importance of showcasing African authenticity in his music, stating that he aims to bridge gaps between African and global audiences.

The album was released on September 20, 2024, and features collaborations with notable artists like Popcaan and Wande Coal, highlighting his pan-African vision.
