The Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina left the team ahead of their last 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Rwanda on Monday, because of a special request by his club, Dailyeconomy reports.
Dailyeconomy gathered that Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirio Santo, spoke with Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen.
The Nottingham Forest manager begged Eguavoen to send Aina back to the UK since the Super Eagles had secured its qualification into the 2025 AFCON.
“Nottingham Forest, Espirito pleaded with Austin Eguaveon to release Ola Aina early so as to return to England to prepare well for their game against Arsenal.
“Austin Eguaveon granted it,” writes photojournalist, PoojaMedia.
However, Dailyeconomy also gathered that Ademola Lookman and the Super Eagles’ number goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali were absent in the team training last dusk.
It would be recalled that Nwabali lost his father on Friday, November 16.
However, the reason for Lookman’s absence from the team training is yet to be revealed.
The Super Eagles are certain to finish as Group D winners ahead of their final game in the qualifying series after they drew 1-1 with Benin Republic on Thursday, November 14.
