Rema, Tems featured on Barack Obama’s summer playlist

The Nigerian music sensations, Divine Ikubor well known as Rema and Temilade Openiyi well known as Tems, have secured spots on the former United States President, Barack Obama’s 2024 summer playlist.

The playlist, which has already garnered over 11 million views and 84,000 likes on X (formally Twitter) features a a diverse array of artists from around the globe.

Rema’s track ‘Yayo’ from his latest album “HEIS” joins the playlist, continuing its success with over two million views on YouTube and more than 60,000 likes.

Tems’ inclusion comes via her reimagining of the afro-soul classic ‘Love Me Jeje,’ originally performed by Seyi Sodimu and Shaffy Bello.

This marks the second consecutive year Tems has been featured on Obama’s playlist, following her appearance in 2022 with ‘Vibe Out’’.

Obama’s summer playlists have become a significant endorsement for artists, often boosting their global reach.

However, Tems and Rema making the list this year, showcases the growing international recognition.

Other musics on the list include ‘Them Belly Full’ by Bob Marley ft The Wailers, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ by Beyonce, ‘You’ve Really Got A Old On Me’ by The Miracles, and ‘Wanna Be’ by Megan Thee Stallion ft GloRilla.

Obama captioned the playlists, “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to,”
