The House of Representatives has given its approval to President Bola Tinubu’s request for a state of emergency in Rivers State, though with a significant amendment.
The House resolution allows for the emergency to be reviewed at any time during its duration, without the need to wait for the six-month period initially outlined in the proclamation.
Minority Whip, Ali Isa JC, introduced the amendment, suggesting that should signs of the crisis resolution emerge, the President should reassess the need for the continued state of emergency in the state.
