In a decisive move towards environmental sustainability, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off a residential building on Ayinde Akinmade Street, Lekki, on Tuesday.
The action according to a remark obtained from the Lagos State ommissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, followed repeated warnings to the property owners for discharging wastewater and raw sewage illegally.
Wahab wrote, “The Lagos of State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) in demonstration of its commitment to sustainable environment, proper sanitation and public health safety in the State in line with EMPL 2017, on Tuesday 31st December, 2024, sealed off a residential building at No. 5, Ayinde Akinmade Street, Lekki, for deliberately discharging wastewater and raw sewage via pipes behind the building after several warnings.”
However, the LSWMO’s commitment aligns with the Environmental Management Policy Law (EMPL) 2017, underscoring the importance of proper sanitation and public health safety in Lagos State.
