Rex Insurance hosts second Spelling Bee Competition to promote academic excellence in Lagos
In a vibrant display of intellect and talent, Rex Insurance successfully hosted its Interschool Spelling Bee Competition, bringing together 23 public schools across Lagos State, each represented by two outstanding students.
The event took place at the Rex Insurance Head Office in Victoria Island on Thursday, 13th November 2025, with the goal of promoting literacy, building confidence, and encouraging healthy academic competition among students from across Lagos State.

A statement from the company said the program commenced with a welcome address from the Managing Director of Rex Insurance, Ebelechukwu B. Nwachukwu who reaffirmed the commitment of the company to support education and youth development initiatives. She mentioned, “At Rex Insurance, we believe in empowering the next generation by fostering both academic and personal growth. We are proud to contribute to the development of young minds and to encourage a culture of learning and healthy competition.

Representing the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebisi Omolaoye, Lagos State Education District 4 Coordinator, commended the company for its impactful contribution to the academic growth of students, highlighting the vital role of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving educational excellence.
The competition featured three exciting rounds, with each participant displaying not only their spelling abilities but great composure and quick thinking before a distinguished panel of four judges from Rex Insurance: Ngozi Onyeme, Assistant General Manager, Legal Services; Wilson Okoh-Esene, Head, Corporate Communications & Customer Experience; Victoria Udoh, Team Lead, Learning & Development/HRBP; and Franklin Obidigbo, Facilities & Project Manager.
After intense rounds of competition, the following schools emerged as winners:
1st Place: Gbaja Girls Senior Secondary school
2nd Place: New Era Girls Senior Secondary School
3rd Place: Obele Community Senior High School
Winners were recognized with cash awards, educational materials and certificates, while all participants received certificates of participation and educational materials for their commendable efforts. The prizes for the top three winners were presented by the General Counsel/ Company Secretary, Ms. Shiela Ezeuko alongside the Head, Human Capital Management, Mr. Tudor Osademe.
Speaking at the close of the event, the Head, Brands and Events, Emmanuel Ndoh, expressed appreciation to all participating schools, the judges and the Lagos State Ministry of Education for their support. “Education remains at the heart of what we do. By empowering young minds, we are investing in the future of our community and our nation,” he said.
The competition concluded with a group photo session and networking among students, teachers and company representatives, marking yet another successful edition of Rex Insurance’s commitment to educational empowerment and social impact.
