The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu on Thursday, crediting the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

The decision came during the Assembly’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, effectively pausing the contentious process that had heightened political tensions in the oil-rich state.

While specifics of Tinubu’s terms remain undisclosed, the move signals a potential de-escalation.

“The Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the Assembly announced, as reported in initial updates.

Tensions had escalated in recent weeks amid the impeachment push, marking a significant shift in Rivers’ volatile political landscape.
