The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally written to the State Chief Judge, requesting the immediate constitution of a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

The letter, signed by Speaker Rt. Martin Chike Amaewhule, invokes Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and follows a resolution passed at the House’s 60th Legislative Day of the Third Session of the 10th Assembly.

The correspondence reads partly, “I write to request that you appoint a panel of seven (7) persons to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against His Excellency, Sir Siminalaye Fubara GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State pursuant to section 188(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

“At the 60th Legislative day of the Third Session of the 10th Assembly, the House resolved in compliance with section 188(4) of the Constitution that these allegations be investigated.”

The assembly attached supporting documents, including acknowledged copies of the Notice of Allegations of Gross Misconduct, the Rivers State Impeachment Panel (Conduct of Investigations) Procedure, 2025, photocopies of national newspaper publications

This move reignites months-long tensions between the assembly, led by Amaewhule, and Governor Fubara, amid ongoing power struggles that have seen defections, court battles, and federal interventions.

The Chief Judge now holds the pivotal role in empaneling the investigators, who, if constituted, will probe the claims and recommend next steps in the impeachment process.

The letter closes with a formal note, “Please accept the assurances of our esteemed regards. Sincerely, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule DSSRS, Speaker.”
