This week, the Nigerian Senate returned to plenary sessions in a revamped chamber featuring substantial technological enhancements designed to modernize the legislative process.

Every senator’s seat is now outfitted with a mini monitor and an upgraded microphone system, representing a move toward a completely automated environment.

While the main aim of this upgrade is to improve efficiency, it has led to speculation that the new system could facilitate open ballot voting, especially during divisions on contentious matters.

This change occurs in response to growing public and civic demands for the Senate to move away from traditional voice voting in favor of a more transparent, technology-based approach that ensures greater accountability in legislative decisions.
