Service chiefs to retire with lifetime salary benefits, Tunji-Ojo announces

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced a historic welfare policy granting lifetime salary benefits to senior officers retiring from the ranks of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General.
This was obtained in a statement on Thursday by the NPRO/Head, Corporate Services of Federal Fire Service, DCF PO Abraham.
The landmark decision, approved by President Bola Tinubu, was unveiled during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat and marks a major step in recognising the dedication of senior officers across all agencies under the Ministry.
Addressing the retreat, Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to institutional strengthening, capacity building, and officer welfare, highlighting key achievements including the clearance of a backlog of promotions—with over 50,000 officers promoted within two years.
“Our officers’ progression will henceforth be determined by their capacity and performance,” the Minister stated, emphasizing a results-driven approach. He also underscored the Ministry’s focus on mental health support, noting the importance of wellbeing in the workplace.
In recognition of the welfare of senior officers, the Minister announced that any officer retiring from the rank Deputy Controller/ Comptroller /Commandant -General will now receive lifetime salary benefits.
The Minister further charged the Federal Fire Service to open up for private sector partnerships, emphasizing that collaboration with private stakeholders is key to enhancing service delivery, infrastructure development, and the modernization of firefighting operations in Nigeria.
He expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, affirming that all agencies under the Ministry of Interior are reaping the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
