Shettima represents Nigeria at G20 Summit as Tinubu stays to manage security situation

President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg to focus on pressing security challenges at home.

Bayo Onanuga, spokesman to the President as earlier confirmed that the President chose to “stay back in Nigeria and attend to security concerns,” particularly following recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.

In his stead, Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the two-day summit, scheduled from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

This global forum convenes leaders from the world’s top 20 economies alongside the European Union, the African Union, and key financial institutions.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who chairs the G20 this year, extended the invitation to Nigeria’s delegation, underscoring the country’s strategic role in regional and global affairs.
