Vice President Kashim Shettima, accompanied by his wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima, led Nigeria’s delegation to the 50th Independence Day celebration of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Shettima stood in for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Golden Jubilee festivities, which took place in the capital city of São Tomé.

The event marked half a century since the Central African island nation gained independence from Portuguese colonial rule on July 12, 1975.

The Vice President joined other world leaders and dignitaries at the National Day celebrations, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties within Africa.

According to a post by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, on X (formerly Twitter), “Vice President Kashim Shettima #officialSKSM, accompanied by his wife Hajiya Nana Shettima #kujarima, participated in the National Day celebrations of São Tomé and Príncipe earlier today, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu #officialABAT at the nation’s 50th Independence Day commemoration.”
